OAKLAND, Calif.-In 2016 the Ghost Ship Warehouse was mysteriously set on fire killing 36 people. Derick Almena, one of the two defendants in the case, was denied bail on Monday.

In an online conference his attorneys met with prosecutors and Judge Trina Thompson It was there that one attorney of Almena, Tony Serra, filed for an emergency release for Almena due to his psychological suffering in prison and the fact that he was not a danger to the community.

Monday would have been the first day of a new trail, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this had to be postponed. Almena has already served over two years in Santa Rita Jail, and will remain there until July 6th, the date at which Judge Thompson postponed the trial.
